”I am telling you if there is a God, when I get to heaven I’m not stopping to be interviewed. I am heading straight in. I have earned my place in heaven. It’s not even close.” Mayor Michael Bloomberg
I got that quote from an RC Sproul Jr. article, which he got from the NY Times. Well, I just have to say, I’ll be praying for His soul (Bloomberg’s), and those who think like what he said.
How many of us want to be able to tell God all the good we’ve done for Him?
Well I might wish to, but would never presume to. The truth is my good works are nothing but filthy rags to our Lord!
All of us have become like one who is unclean,
and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags;
we all shrivel up like a leaf,
and like the wind our sins sweep us away
.
Isaiah 64:6
NIV
There I’ve used an age old Christian cliche, but it’s true and needs to be accepted by all who wish entry, not into “Heaven”, but God’s eternal presence!
You see the goal is not Heaven, although that comes with the goal. The Goal is right relationship with God! That right relationship is accomplished through perfection in this life, and how many of us have the gravitas to claim that!
The answer should be NONE!
Even my good works are often tainted with selfish, ambition, or motives. God doesn’t accept that, as good, for it is sin……and if I can’t even do good without sinning, how can I hope to be found in God’s presence when I go to my final rest?
I can’t UNLESS I have a relstioship with God’s one and only son Jesus Christ. The only perfect man, who took my sin and shame, and yours, to the cross. It is through my trust in HIS WORK that I am once again viewed right by God!
Those filthy rags I wear, naturally, are covered , if you will, by the righteous holy covering of Jesus perfect clothes! And Christ takes my ugly clothes and wears them on the cross. One look at the occupied Cross of Christ and you see how dirty our sin is!
I don’t trust my clothes, as suitable to wear in God’s presence. I only trust in Christ’s perfect clothing!
Now here is that article by RC Sproul Jr., that displays Eternal gravitas, and clearly misplaced hubris, by a politician that believes his work grants him access to Heaven…..(and it doesn’t matter a bit his political persuasion) ………he doesn’t even think he’ll stop by for a chat with the landlord!
Maybe he should checkout the rules for admission! You’ve got to know the right person to get in!
PONDER THIS as you walk through life: Why do you do what you do? Can you Honestly say it i from pure intentions. Then what about the bad you do? Do you really think we can buy our stairway to Heaven?
